It is always fun and exciting to start a new relationship but the most difficult work is to maintain it for long period of time. However, the benefits of maintaining a long-term and committed relationship far outweigh the difficulties that you may face. In order to keep your relationship last long, you can follow these tips:
Make Time For Each Other:
Despite your busy schedules, you need make a concerted effort to talk to each other every day. No matter how much work you have to do, you should make sure to put an effort to know your loved ones on daily basis. You can set aside time to talk during dinner, or to talk over the phone if your loved one is away. Develop a habit of knowing your loved one’s day like. Become more comfortable with each other’s routine. Keep reminding them how much you love and miss him/her.
You should also aim to have a date night at least once a week to spend some quality time with your special someone. However, you should not be distracted when you are talking.
Making love is also a way to maintain your intimacy and to grow closer to your partner. You should make some time to just cuddling and kissing each other.
However, give one another personal space that they deserve. Getting to clingy can irritate your partner and ruin your relationship.
Be honest with each other:
Honesty is the best policy to keep any long-lasting relationship. You should be able to be open and honest with you special one in order to keep your relationship last long. Learn to share your feelings with them. If you’re really upset or angry about something, then don’t keep it all inside. Being honest about your feelings will help you work through the problem. Though honesty is almost always the best policy, you don’t have to share every little feeling with your loved one. For example, if you don’t like his new shirt or think one of his new friends is kind of annoying, you may want to keep it to yourself.
Also make sure you share your feelings when your loved one has time to talk and is relatively unstressed as it will be better received when he has time to listen.
Be loyal to your partner and be open in everything you do because hiding things behind their back won’t work at all.
Learn to compromise:
In order to make your relationship to last, you should learn to find way for both of you to be happy with your decisions, or to take turns giving in to each other. “Being happy should be more important than being right”. When you two are making decision, take the time to discuss the pros and cons and what you can do to meet halfway. Make sure both people are compromising because one way compromise cannot lead to long lasting relationship.
Also learn to say sorry if you have done something wrong. When it comes to a relationship, admitting you’re sorry is much more important than being stubborn. Make sure you mean it. Be sincere and make eye contact. It won’t mean anything if you’re just saying you’re sorry because you have to.
Tell your loved one how much he/she means to you:
Don’t ever forget to say “I love you” and take your feelings for granted. However, there’s a difference between “love you” and “I love you”—you should really mean it when you say it. You should always compliment your loved one for example tell her how great she looks in her new dress or how much you love his/her smile. You can never take your partner’s kind actions for granted and always thank them. Don’t ever forget to make him feel unique.
Understand contextual behavior:
When you are in a relationship, you need to accept the fact that negative contextual influences are unavoidable. If your partner is unsympathetic with you in a testing time, such as just following labor, being fired at work, or after a death in the family, then consider that it maybe not be him or her, but the situation that produces those words. Try to forget and forgive a person’s behavior in difficult times. Keeping grudges for what your partner said carelessly add up over time, and it is a sure way of making a relationship sour.
Warning:
- Don’t try to make your partner jealous as they may dump you thinking that you don’t like them anymore.
- The above mentioned steps are not guaranteed as nothing can guarantee long term relationship. Most people will agree that these steps are the basic truths in a relationship.
