HOME REMEDIES FOR COMMON COLD
You don’t have to run to hospitals every time you get common cold. You can get rid of your stuffy nose and scratchy throat with just few simple home remedies.
Get plenty of fluids:
You can try water, sports drinks, herbal teas, fruit drinks or ginger ale. Drinking plenty of fluids gets you dehydrated and makes your throat moist. It also helps break up your congestion. Fluids such as hot ginger tea lessen inflammation of mucous membranes that line the nasal passages and the sinus cavity, and this inflammation contributes greatly to the buildup of pressure and congestion.
Steam it out:
One of the instant fix for a stuffy nose is to steam it out. You can extract the benefits of steam by breathing it in from a mug of hot tea, taking a hot shower, or filling a bowl with a hot water and adding an essential oil. You can also get some nasal relief with a humidifier in your bedroom or office.
Gargle for sore throat:
Gargling moistens your sore or scratchy throats and gives you a temporary relief. To help clear up a sore throat, gargle with a mixture of sage, apple cider vinegar, and salt. The salt will draw excess fluid out of the tissues that has been creating uncomfortable swelling in your throat. The apple cider vinegar may help to kill off the bug, but even if it doesn’t, it still seems to help with the pain. Sage is astringent that also helps to draw excess fluid out of tissues, and anti-bacterial.
Bath salt for clearing sinus:
To ease a tired, sick, body and clear up congestion, you can make a blend of scented bath salt. This is the perfect remedy for you to get over a nasty cold. In order to make bath salt: Pour the salt into your container and blend the essential oils. Add the oils to the salt. Stir the mixer thoroughly with a spoon. When taking a bath fill the tub half way, add 2-3 tablespoons of salt, and fill it up the rest of the way. Relax yourself!
Heat it up:
You can drink hot liquids to relieve your congestion and reduce the inflamed lining of your nose and throat. If you can take the heat of hot peppers, munching on one is a temporary way to take out congestion fast. The elements in peppers that make them spicy helps loosen up mucous so you can expel it.
Stay warm and rest yourself:
It is very important for you to rest when you come down with a cold or flu. Battling with infection taxes your body so getting enough rest helps your body focus its energy to fighting off your infection and germs. Lay down under a blanket to stay warm and get as much rest as you can.
Rescue with Radish:
Radish is both anti-septic and full of vitamins and minerals. Just a plain old spicy radish can help with congestion. When you find yourself feeling stuffed up, you can eat a couple of radish to clear up your congestion in no time. Eat 2-3 radishes twice daily.
Chest Salve:
You can make your own vapor rub with just 3 ingredients: ½ cups of coconut oil, 15 drops of peppermint essential oil and an airtight container. Mix the boiled coconut oil and drops of essential oil and put it on an airtight container. Once it has cooled down, you can simply rub a little on your chest or under your nose. This simple blend can be whipped up in a hurry.
